You know the saying....

"Always be kind.  Everyone you know is going through some type of battle."

We have all read, or heard this advice at some point, right?  It's a nice sentiment, a good way to live, since the struggle that most of the people you interact with, on a daily basis, aren't going to tell you what's going wrong in their life.

Today, I noticed the lead actor in Chicago's Broadway show, "Hamilton" on the local News, I figured he was promoting the show...until I saw his wife next to him, and they cut to some family photos of them with their babies, so I turned it up...found out their second child, a baby girl suffers from a disease that isn't curable. She had been having dozens of seizures, daily, which started when she was 7 months old. They found out what was causing the seizures, at the same time as Lin-Manuel Miranda called to tell him that he landed the role in Hamilton.

Whoa.

Can you imagine? I can not. Miguel Cervantes gets his shot at the role of a lifetime, one I'm sure all stage actors dream about. He's offered the lead role in the smash hit musical, to play the part of the guy, who wrote, and starred in the New York run of the multi-Tony award winning, "Hamilton," Lin-Manuel Miranda. The role of Alexander Hamilton, in Chicago and in New York, is extremely demanding. I haven't even seen the show, but after listening to the soundtrack, I assure you, it's an exhausting role, with a massive amount of dialogue, singing, rapping, and he's on stage throughout the entire show, in almost, if not every single scene. Cervantes said, he says more words in this show, than he has ever said, in his entire theatrical career.

That same week, he and his wife Kelly receive a diagnosis for their baby daughter Adelaide.  She has IS, Infantile Spasms, a form of epilepsy that is challenging to treat. But they need to move to Chicago for this huge acting gig for Miguel. But their baby is sick, and she needs the best care possible. There is no cure for Epilepsy, and she has seizures every day. Many available treatments for their daughter's disease can cause adverse effects.

The level of stress and worry for this family is too high to measure, right?  Forget it! I'm certain I would crumble into a pile of tears.

Well...the Cervantes Family moved to Chicago, their 1 year old baby girl had a set back over the summer, but her Mom, Kelly, says she's doing better now, and has started smiling again.

Incredibly, this career opportunity for Miguel, has also provided him with a platform for his most personal cause. He and his family hope to bring awareness to their daughter's condition, and an organization in Chicago, working to find a cure for all forms of epilepsy, called CURE, Citizens United for Research in Epilepsy.

In an article for the Chicago Trib, Cervantes said, "As great as it is to play Alexander Hamilton in the biggest show to come through Chicago in 20 years, it's very grounding to know that doing the show isn't for me, it isn't for the vanity or all the sexy parts of it, it's for her," about his daughter.

Miguel Cervantes is taking part in a special fundraising raffle and silent auction, where you can enter to win Hamilton tickets, backstage passes, and bid on a chance to go caroling with Miguel and other cast members from Hamilton, along with a bunch of other amazing stuff too.  Go to myshotatepilepsy.org and check it all out yourself.

What an impressive family.  When faced with something as challenging as a sick child, they are still moving forward and succeeding, all while keeping their sweet family as their top priority.  The city of Chicago is lucky to have them for a bit.

Hope that their daughter's treatments end up being even more successful than the Tony award winning musical her Daddy stars in.
